HI! I'm Michelle

I'm a doula and childbirth educator. I love my job.

I have always been interested in the fascinating process of how babies are born, but I started my doula journey when my sister had her first sweet little boy in 2010. I realized how important support during labor was, and what a difference it made to the family. Even just a peaceful heart and a kind hand eased the intensity of contractions for Mom, and helped Dad finally get some rest. What an honor to witness to the birth of my sister into motherhood.

Birth has a life-changing effect on parents.  This is a pivotal moment they will never forget, and one they reflect upon regularly as they encounter challenges in their lives.  I wanted to help in making it a more gentle, more empowering event.  I wanted to help them to tap into their innate strength, facilitate the connection between partners, and hold space while a family is born.

Every step of my journey has been humbling and inspiring.  Between attending births I've read books, done trainings, and started volunteering in my community. I love teaching soon-to-be-parents about babies and birth!  My own son’s birth in 2014 validated the importance of being informed, and of having a good birth team.  Knowing my options and being able to make the best decision for my family has empowered me as a parent, and as a person in general.

This last year I’ve decided to take my doula journey to the next level and make it my full-time passion. To that end, I am working on DONA & BAI certification as a birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, lactation educator, and midwife assistant.  What an uplifting experience! I am so grateful for every birth I’ve had the honor to attend, and I look forward to helping more families on their journey.

HAPPY MAMA BIRTH SERVICES

In all aspects of my work, I seek to empower parents. My business is not named “Happy Doctor” or “Happy Michelle”.  My work is centered around YOU-- your needs, your concerns.  I named my business “Happy Mama” to emphasize this philosophy, though I also enjoy supporting non-"mama" laboring parents.

The waterlily is a symbol of peace and resilience. It grows in the silent depths and flourishes even in the murkiest circumstances.  The frog is a symbol of adaptation and metamorphosis. Connected to two worlds, this frog plants her feet in the earth and reaches up to the sky. Her body-- a vesica pisces, an ancient symbol of the divine feminine, of birth, of portals between worlds, and is frequently found in sacred geometry.  Her moon smile is a traditional symbol of blessing, and reminds us to be thankful and and find joy even through the challenges of change.
